Teacher Guide: Creating and Managing Tests
Overview
The Tests feature allows you to create language proficiency assessments to evaluate your students' skills. You can create custom tests or use AI to generate comprehensive assessments automatically.
Getting Started
Accessing Tests
- Log in to your teacher account
- In the sidebar, go to Teaching → Level Tests
- You'll see a list of all your tests
Creating a New Test
Manual Test Creation
- Click the "Create Test" button
- Fill in the test details:
- Title: Give your test a clear name (e.g., "Spanish Level Assessment")
- Description: Explain what the test evaluates
- Language: Select the language being tested
- Topic (optional): Specify focus area
- Add questions:
- Multiple Choice: Questions with 4 answer options
- Text Answer: Open-ended questions requiring written responses
- True/False: Statement evaluation questions
- For each question, specify:
- Question text
- Answer options (for multiple choice)
- Correct answer
- Points value
- Click "Create Test" to save
AI-Generated Test Creation
- Click "Create with AI" button
- Provide the following information:
- Title: Test name
- Description: What the test should assess
- Language: Target language
- Topic (optional): Specific focus area
- Number of Questions: How many questions to generate (recommended: 10-20)
- Click "Generate Test"
- The AI will create a comprehensive test with:
- Progressive difficulty (beginner to advanced)
- Mix of question types
- Vocabulary and grammar questions
- Reading comprehension
- Cultural knowledge questions
- Review the generated questions
- Edit or remove questions as needed
- Click "Create Test" to save
Question Types Explained
Multiple Choice Questions
- Best for: Vocabulary, grammar rules, comprehension
- Format: One question with 4 possible answers
- Scoring: Typically 1-2 points each
- Example: "What is the Spanish word for 'hello'?"
- A) Adiós
- B) Hola ✓
- C) Gracias
- D) Por favor
Text Answer Questions
- Best for: Translation, fill-in-the-blank, short answers
- Format: Open-ended response
- Scoring: Typically 2-3 points each
- Example: "Translate to Spanish: 'Good morning'"
- Answer: "Buenos días"
True/False Questions
- Best for: Grammar rules, cultural facts, statements
- Format: Statement with True/False options
- Scoring: Typically 1 point each
- Example: "In Spanish, all nouns have a gender. True or False?"
- Answer: True
Managing Existing Tests
Viewing Test Details
- Click on any test from your tests list
- You'll see:
- Test title and description
- All questions and answers
- Point values
- Total possible score
Editing a Test
- Open the test you want to edit
- Click the "Edit" button
- Modify test details or questions
- Add, remove, or reorder questions
- Click "Save Changes"
Viewing Test Results
- Open a test
- Click "View Results" or "Responses"
- See:
- Student names and scores
- Individual answers
- Pass/fail rates
- Question-by-question analysis
Deleting a Test
- Open the test you want to delete
- Click the "Delete" button
- Confirm the deletion
- Note: This will also delete all student results

- Clear instructions: Make questions unambiguous

Scoring and Grading
Point System
- Beginner questions: 1 point
- Intermediate questions: 2 points
- Advanced questions: 3 points
Interpreting Scores
- 90-100%: Advanced proficiency
- 70-89%: Intermediate proficiency
- 50-69%: Beginner proficiency
- Below 50%: Needs more practice
Automatic Grading
- Multiple choice and true/false questions are graded automatically
- Text answer questions may require manual review
- Students see their scores immediately after submission

Q: How many questions should a test have? A: For placement tests: 15-25 questions. For unit tests: 10-15 questions. For quick quizzes: 5-10 questions.
Q: Can I reuse questions from other tests? A: Currently, you need to create new tests. Consider saving your best questions in a document for reference.
Q: How do I create a placement test? A: Use AI generation with "General language assessment" as the topic. Request 20+ questions with progressive difficulty.
Q: Can students retake tests? A: Yes, students can retake tests unless you specify otherwise in your course settings.
Q: How do I grade text answer questions? A: Review student responses manually. Look for key vocabulary, correct grammar, and appropriate context.

- Test regularly: Frequent short tests are better than rare long ones
- Align with courses: Test content should match what you've taught
- Provide feedback: Let students know what they got wrong and why
- Use results: Analyze test data to identify areas where students struggle
